Community Building and Community Reflection sessions (COM)
Building an equitable, caring community throughout June, July and August with 60-90 minute synchronous sessions.

Led by Maha Bali and Mia Zamora. Sessions June 1, 8, 15, 21, 28 taking place at different times to accommodate multiple timezones. Future sessions to emerge from participant contributions.

The Joy of a Daily Creative Habit (JOY)
For more than 10 years the DS106 Daily Create has published every day a small creative challenge (~15 minutes of effort) an ungraded, low stakes act aimed at expanding creative expression. Challenge yourself, take it playfully ot seriously, learn new tools, and reflect/support together in a MyDest Slack channel.

Led by Alan Levine. Participation is usually via twitter, but can be done via Slack. Optional drop-in lab times will be available.

Missed Conversations with Curated Keynotes (EM)
Participants will come together synchronously and asynchronously to crowdsource and curate keynotes of value in the past three years. A selected number of keynoters will be invited to continue conversations. A chance to continue valuable conversations and connect with thought leaders.

Making Conversation (EM)
These conversations will invite guests from a range of areas of educational practice to talk about their area of expertise. Participants will be invited into the conversation to share experiences around a selected topic, including for example:

Technology / Pedagogy Entanglements

Open sessions: bring your own topic and host a conversation (EM)
Participants are invited to suggest any topic or burning issue related to the themes of MYFest for discussion with the community. They will be invited to lead a conversation in a free-form open space with facilitation and hosting support.

Led by Sukaina Walji, in partnership with eMerge Africa. One per month in June, July and August.

Open Learning Journey (OEP/DL)
A multi-week learning journey — attend the whole thing or any part — where participants will explore open educational practices and resources. Join us to experiment with different tools and practices, create and distribute open educational resources and activities, and strategize about how open education can start and spread in educational institutions. Our journey will include conversations with open education practitioners, social reading about open education, and collaborative open projects across the MYFest community.

The American University in Cairo Center for Learning and Teaching team describe the purpose and process of creating the Open Educational Resource: Digital Literacies Toolkit and invite others to contribute resources.

After building a shared understanding of the culture of grief, story, psychological capital, and the interplay of hope, efficacy, resiliency, and optimism (HERO), we will have the opportunity to share our stories and experiences of grief and see HERO at work. Reflection (both individual and collective) will be a key thread throughout this two hour workshop.

Intro to Emergent Strategy: (Re)Imagining #HigherEd (COM)
Join facilitator Karen Costa for this 30-minute workshop to introduce learners to emergent strategy, a way of thinking, feeling, and moving in this world that can help us to shape a more colorful, inclusive, life-affirming higher education. Karen will offer a concise interpretation of emergent strategy for higher educators including a curated resource list, and then we’ll engage together in identifying the next, smallest steps in what adrienne maree brown calls our “imagination battles.” You can engage in this session via chat, activities, or by listening along. All styles of engagement are welcome. Cameras on or off. Come as you are. Children and pets welcome and encouraged.

The Anti-Colonial Classroom (CP/SJ)
What are the ways that colonial conditions persist in and pervade today’s teaching instruction? Rather than satisfy ourselves with “progress,” this interactive workshop challenges us to question our pedagogy and practices rooted in colonialism. As we will explore theory in order to apply practice, participants will be guided through activities to unearth inequities that impede learning in classroom experiences. Together, we will craft a plan to develop learning environments that sustain our students towards more equitable goals.

Ethical EdTech: The Questions We Should Ask and the Answers We Deserve (OEP/DL)
This workshop, led from the perspective of both administrator and faculty, offers notes towards a blueprint for understanding how the digital tools for teaching and learning come to the classroom and the ethical implications of them. Questions like privacy, consent, data storage, and monetization will be foregrounded. Participants will co-create the questions for exploration and will leave the session with a better sense of how to improve ethical practice of edtech use within their own institutions.

Discover the stories inside you. What stories do you carry around? What story can you tell in a 100 words? Just 25 words? This microfiction workshop is a fun chance to tap into the stories inside ourselves, while we look at different storytelling tools and platforms in terms of accessibility, sustainability, and global reach. We hope you will learn to love the creative power of your own words and enjoy crafting narratives in this special “collaboratory”. And the time spent creatively with others might be just what your spirit needs to recharge and renew!
