I am a Professor of Teaching in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia Vancouver (Canada), which is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musequeam) people. I am also the Academic Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at UBC Vancouver, and starting July 4 will be the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Teaching and Learning pro tem for one year. I’ve done a lot of education and advocacy around open educational resources and practices, and some research as well in those areas. I was a Virtually Connecting Buddy for a number of years, and am happy to be able to meet and work with so many people in many places through an online format! I’m also particularly interested lately in ethics and educational technology, including generative AI.

Why I’m in MYFest: The opportunity to meet and learn with friends old and new, and to practice play, wellbeing, and joy together as well. I participated in MYFest in 2022 and found it an incredibly enriching and rejuvenating experience that has stayed with me for a year and I can’t wait to jump in again!

MYFest involvement:  Co-organizer, helping with various tasks, facilitating a session on ethics and educational technology.
